Cold-end coating system

Glass containers in a recycling system have to put up with heavy loads. Their strength and surface quality have a crucial impact on the efficiency of the production and bottling process as well as on their own durability. This is especially true of lightweight containers.

Increased durability

Optimal surface coatings provide the answer. The futronic cold-end coating system improves surface hardness by applying a hard-wearing protective layer downstream of the annealing lehr. As a result, the glass is more resistant to scratching and has better lubricity. The former increases the container's durability while the latter prevents disruptions to the production process.

Innovative technology

The system is positioned immediately downstream of the annealing lehr outlet. A mobile bridge, up to 5.60 m long, holds a set of spray heads, which sprinkle the containers from above perpendicular to the motion of the conveyor belt. The bridge compensates the movement of the conveyor during spraying at speeds of up to 60 m/min. The novel system design stops the coating medium from getting inside the hollow glass containers. All parameters can be entered, monitored and optimised on a separate control unit.
